Poetry Night with John Agard - Stroud Book Festival

  • Sub Rooms Ballroom Stroud Book Festival United Kingdom (map)

Poet, playwright, and children’s writer John Agard was born in Georgetown in Guyana and moved to the UK in 1977. He has won many awards for his writing, including the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry and, last year, a Lifetime Achievement Award from Book Trust.

His many poetry collections for adults address such themes as race, ethnicity, morality and ancient mythology with a blend of wit, humour and acute observation of the human condition.

John is a puckish, joyous and inimitable performer, mixing ‘straight’ English with Caribbean Creole to exhilarating effect; he draws an audience in until his words feel as much a part of them as they do of him.

John will be performing a selection of his poems in a spell-binding event at the Stroud Book Festival.

Introduced by Adam Horovitz.
