Set against the current social and political upheaval in Afghanistan, Abarzanan (Superwomen) Art-Conflict and Feminism presents a timely conversation about women, creativity and activism within the moments of social and cultural rupture. Join Dr Bilquis Ghani and artist, curator and activist Rada Akbar as they explore the mobilisation of the creative process through Rada’s project Abarzanan, a radically beautiful and powerful exhibition which purges history to reveal the superwomen who have come before us. This event will be convened by its curator Nur Shkembi.

Bios
Rada Akbar is an artist, curator and activist from Afghanistan currently living in exile in Paris. Rada’s practice focuses on re-examining history and gender equality in her country through her work in fashion, design and visual art.
Dr Bilquis Ghani is a Sydney (Gadigal) based researcher and activist. Bilquis’ research focuses on the mobilisation of the creative process through moments of social and cultural rupture. Her work takes a decolonial approach to making sense of arts movements in conflict spaces, Kabul in particular.
Nur Shkembi is a Melbourne (Naarm) based curator, writer and art historian. Her research and curatorial practice focus on the peripheries and margins of the canon, applying a decolonial lens to the documentation and presentation of contemporary art.
