Serendipity and Renaissance One presents 'Poets On The Verandah': Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze and Michael Brome.
Join two acclaimed poets on an idyllic Caribbean verandah setting, and join in the exchange of stories. The internationally renowned Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze MBE and Michael Brome join up for a special occasion of readings, performances and conversation.
Michael Brome is a poet and lyricist based in Leicester. He has been a winner of the Spoken Word Commission, a project initiated by Baroness Lola Young in collaboration with Renaissance One, resulting in a performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Michael uses his writing and powerful performance to respond to changes in culture and society resulting in diverse commissions. These include The Art of Philanthropy for Cultivate, Freedom Showcase, Tongue Fu, and an Architects of The Republic event with Apples and Snakes and Tilt which responded to the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s I Have A Dream speech.
Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze marked her 60th birthday in 2016 with the publication of her new poetry collection ‘The Verandah Poems’ (Bloodaxe). She is the author of eight books including On the Edge of An Island and Third World Girl. A recipient of an MBE in 2012 for her services to Poetry and often cited as a ‘one-woman festival’, her words carry powerful political and personal messages.
