A theatrical poetry show of arrivals, departures, landscapes and journeys, written and performed by Lydia Towsey with live onstage music and vocals by Dave Dhonau and Ola Szmidt and guest poets and artists Jenny 'Hibword', Cynthia Rodriguez, Mellow Baku and Shruti Chauhan, and a panel discussion following the show featuring local speakers, organisations and artists including Colleen Molloy (City of Sanctuary national office), Ambrose Musiyiwa/Civic Leicester and host Melanie Abrahams. Co-directed by Rachel Mars and Nick Field.
In this new semi-staged poetry and music show, through the filters of an immigration officer, the tabloids and the general public, Venus experiences what it means to be a 21st century woman - traveler, every-woman, immigrant, outsider - at a time of social, cultural and political turmoil and change. The event is part of a national tour funded by Arts Council England, supported by Attenborough Arts and Writing East Midlands and produced by Renaissance One.
