Renaissance One presents The Care Project: wellbeing and caring sessions for artists and creatives of colour.
CREATIVE FLAMENCO: connecting with your body for wellbeing
Flamenco, like jazz or Hip Hop, has an incredible way of marking the way in which you stand in the world. In this session, we will explore creativity, engaging with our body and its expressivity and the links between flamenco and diasporic forms of expression. Through taking us through movement and choreography in the festive Bulería style, Yinka will share the ways that flamenco can encourage our unique artistry and help us connect to ourselves. This is a unique opportunity to understand how flamenco works in an open and encouraging environment. Suitable for all body types and ages. No previous experience is necessary.
Dancer and practitioner Yinka Esi Graves is based in Seville after training in ballet as a young girl in London and training and performing around the world. She has dedicated the last 12 years of her life to the Flamenco art form including exploring its little known and documented African roots. She co-founded contemporary flamenco company dotdotdot dance in 2014. She is developing her first solo work The Disappearing Act. (2021)
The Care Project: this session is part of a series of free events curated for artists and creatives of colour, that comes from an approach of wellbeing, progress and care. The project's focus is on supporting practitioners in England but during these challenging times, we are opening parts out to artists and creatives around the world.
Places are free, supported through funding from Arts Council England.
Please contact us at the time of booking if you have any accessibility needs at email Renaissance One at events@renaissanceone.co.uk.
We encourage donations (suggested £5 minimum) with all proceeds going to The Albany Deptford as part of their crowdfunding campaign to continue their vital community work during this challenging time. Participants will be invited to take part in an evaluation which will help to support its continuation.
