Renaissance One presents The Care Project: wellbeing and caring sessions for artists and creatives of colour
BELIEF, MYTH & ARTISTIC PRACTICE: marshalling ourselves and our communities
In this session, Aleasha Chaunte will share her approach to public performance. Rooted in ritual and the knowledge stored in myth, she seeks to demystify and democratise access to rituals and their creative power for personal growth and community action.
As a combined session and conversation, we invite you to bring yourself. Participants will receive a takeaway ritual development handout and reading list at the end of the session. Read more about Aleasha's work and practice at https://www.oneseptemberart.co.uk/handless
Aleasha Chaunte is an artist who works primarily with audiences, finding ways to cue, gain consent and encourage authentic, public intimacy. Her primary interests are ritual and the wisdom contained within fairy/folk/mythic tales. She also works as an actress, most recently in the work of award-winning theatre-maker Andy Smith for his new play Summit. Her training includes a Masters in Acting from MMU in collaboration with Song of the Goat.
Free, places are limited to twenty artists or creatives of colour who are based in and/or who work primarily in England. Book a place through emailing your interest in attending the session and indicating which city/area you are based to Renaissance One at events@renaissanceone.co.uk.
Please contact us at the time of booking if you have any accessibility needs at email Renaissance One at events@renaissanceone.co.uk.
We encourage donations (suggested £5 minimum) with all proceeds going to The Albany Deptford as part of their crowdfunding campaign to continue their vital community work during this challenging time. Participants will be invited to take part in an evaluation which will help to support its continuation.
The Care Project: this session is part of a series of free events curated for artists and creatives of colour, that comes from an approach of wellbeing, progress and care.
